It seems the only way to win her approval is to marry her, though marrying someone so negative is not advisable for a successful marriage. Jenassa is a Dunmer ranger who you can meet early on in the Drunken Huntsman shop located in Whiterun. For gold, you can have her as a follower, and her abilities are nothing to sneeze at. Jenassa is a skilled archer with great aim and is also one of the few followers who can dual wield weapons.
Her level caps at 40 and her morality is also very flexible, willing to commit any crime as mercenaries often do. If that wasn't enough, Jenassa is truly likable as well as marriageable , which doesn't matter in combat.
But it matters in every moment in between the combat, and isn't the whole experience what counts? Given how easy she is to recruit, she ranks high among the best followers in Skyrim. Beat her in a tavern brawl to receive coins and her services.
Uthgerd is a decent warrior; however, even at her level cap of 30, she never manages to max out any of her skills. Her One-Handed and Heavy Armor skills are a little above average whereas her secondaries, Block and Archery, are average. Overall, she is another run-of-the-mill follower with a low Sneak skill destined to set off every trap she encounters. Not to mention, she is a despicable, hypocritical person.
If you are willing to listen, she will tell the Dragonborn about how she was denied entry to the Companions because she killed a boy. Instead of being remorseful, she bears a grudge against them.
This is from someone who will attack you for murdering an innocent character. Not only does Frea not have a level cap, but she is also essential and thus cannot be killed. You can make her a permanent follower by either passing a persuasion check or successfully bribing her after completing "The Fate of the Skaal. Another plus is that she will also use spells to heal herself.
It is unlikely she will ever fall to her knees and beg for mercy in battle. He challenges the Dragonborn to a fistfight, betting coins.
Beat him, and he will follow you for free and you will be a little richer. His level cap is 30, with One-Handed at 78 and Heavy Armor at On top of being a generic warrior, he is rude and is always begging for money for drinks. By the time players make their way to Markarth, they will have encountered far better followers. If you prefer to adventure on the right side of justice, then the jester assassin, Cicero, is not for you. He also has high levels in Light Armor and Archery, making him a versatile fighter who excels at close combat and is an effective sneaky sniper.
Njada is lucky that Torvar is so unremarkable, otherwise she would be the worst of the Companions. Plenty of players have sacrificed him to Boethiah due to his uselessness at least Njada was a trainer. Not only does he cap at level 25, but he wears Light Armor when his proficiencies lie in Heavy Armor.
Luckily, even if you kill Cicero you can get one of the two unnamed Dark Brotherhood Initiates who show up in the Dawnstar Sanctuary after Nazir and Babette move in. Both of these have the same stats as Cicero, and if you kill Cicero you can take his heavily enchanted Jester set, too. Once he considers you a friend, you can ask him to follow you. Aela the Huntress is an archer found in Jorrvaskr, home of the Companions.
Aela is a brilliant archer, but she has better synergy with some player types than others. Vilkas and Farkas are also residents of Jorrvaskr. Mjoll the Lioness can be found in Riften with Aerin, her squire. Once she does, Mjoll will soak up damage, whilst dealing out a lot in return.
There are characters who are more powerful, but Mjoll has a special charm that feels pure and honest, which is a nice addition. Even though she is a mighty Nord, her two-handed weapon preference means that she can be pecked at by enemies that attack quickly.
Erandur is a Dunmer who can be found at the Windpeak Inn at Dawnstar, and it's there that he triggers a quest to save the town's people from a vicious and malevolent force that invades their dreams. The player must team up with Erandur to complete the "Walking Nightmare" quest, at which point he can be recruited.
He's a rather stoic and uncharismatic character, but he makes up for it in combat ability. He's got some solid magic skills to wield in battle, but when things get up close and personal, he'll bust out a mace to defend himself. The brother of fellow lycanthropic Nord Farkas, Vilkas is a master-level trainer in the art of two-handed weapons. He does offer some in-depth dialogue options in comparison to his brother and is considered the most intellectual member of the Companions.
He does well in battle against foes, but he lacks the same punch as his brother, Farkas. Still, while not as powerful as his brother, he is quite effective in combat, and his chatty nature can be a good thing whilst on the road, or in the middle of the wilderness. This powerful follower hangs out at the Drunken Huntsman in Whiterun, making her one of the earliest, and most easily accessible potential followers in the game. Jenassa is no slouch when it comes to combat. She's an expert archer that can trek into the most dangerous of places wearing heavy armor if so desired.
She can also retrieve arrows during travels, which is a definite plus, and her only real drawback is a lack of magical ability. For many gamers, Jenassa is a surefire way to survive the first few perilous adventures whilst they level up their characters.
Aela is a member of the Companions and a master trainer in archery. The most fanatical member of the Circle, she's the only member of the Companions who refuses to be cured of her lycanthropy after one of the main quests is completed. He likes to compete with the Dragonborn, but it's mostly all in good fun. One of the downsides when it comes to J'Zargo is that he only uses apprentice level spells. However, the fact that he's a magic-wielding cat with a charming mustache more than makes up for his lack of knowledge.
To earn his loyalty, the Dragonborn needs to complete his dangerous experimental personal quest at the College of Winterhold. Marcurio is an incredibly powerful mage skilled in both Destruction and Restoration magic. His use of lightning is the perfect offense against enemy magic users because it drains their magicka bar and makes it harder for them to keep firing off spells.
He does have a bit of an attitude problem that encourages him to complain about doing things he considers beneath him, and hiring him costs gold. The cost alone can be a deterrent, but it's worth it, especially early in the game when still trying to figure out exactly who the Dragonborn is going to be and what skills they will focus on while building their reputation.
Twins Vilkas and Farkas are two of the best warriors in Skyrim, but Farkas' alternative skillsets like stealth , make Vilkas a much better warrior. Until the Companions questline is completed, Vilkas is only an occasional companion.
